In the long term, we aim to develop a new branch of social security.
Our proposal is strong, substantiated and ambitious, but it also brings some challenges. We have been thinking about these challenges for more than 3 years, together with all interested parties.
And we have made a lot of progress. This is mainly due to a legal feasibility study (2022) and an ongoing economic study. We are also testing the SSF locally with pilot projects in collaboration with for example BEEScoop and the ULB campus. But to go one step further, we need to remove uncertainties, because the amounts at stake are huge. This requires popular and political support.
In the current campaign, we have the three following demands:
- The creation of large-scale pilot projects in the three Belgian regions (minimum 1000 people, with a multi-million budget)
- The launch of research programmes to model the to be expected socio-economic effects and to verify our financial hypotheses
- The commitment in regional and federal policy declarations to implement these first two steps and to ensure a close political follow-up
